Das kraftvolle Album, das in nur wenigen Wochen fertiggestellt und im Februar 1970 veröffentlicht wurde, erhielt seinen Namen von dem Skid Row Hotel in der Innenstadt von Los Angeles, das auf dem ikonischen Coverfoto von Henry Diltz zu sehen ist.
