„Mirage“ erschien ursprünglich im März 1974 als erstes Album der Band bei Decca Records (erschienen beim Label Deram) und enthält einige ihrer beliebtesten Werke wie „Nimorodel/The Procession/The White Rider“, „Freefall“ und „Lady Fantasy“. Obwohl es in Großbritannien nach der Veröffentlichung nicht in die Charts kam, gelang ihm der Sprung in die US-Billboard-Charts. „Mirage“ etablierte Camel als eine der besten Progressive-Rock-Bands Großbritanniens und ebnete den Weg für ihren zukünftigen Erfolg. Das Album wurde später vom Rolling Stone Magazin als eines der 50 wichtigsten Progressive-Rock-Alben aller Zeiten gefeiert.
