Das zweite Studioalbum der legendären Rockband erschien ursprünglich 1968. Während der Aufnahmen verschlechterte sich der psychische Zustand von Sänger und Gitarrist Syd Barrett, sodass David Gilmour verpflichtet wurde. Barrett verließ die Band vor Fertigstellung des Albums. Während Barrett für Pink Floyds Debütalbum „The Piper at the Gates of Dawn“ (1967) das Songwriting geleitet hatte, steuerte auf „A Saucerful of Secrets“ jedes Mitglied Songwriting und Leadgesang bei.
