„SONGS OF A LOST WORLD“ wurde von Robert Smith geschrieben und arrangiert, von Robert Smith & Paul Corkett produziert und gemischt und von The Cure aufgeführt – Robert Smith: Gesang / Gitarre / 6-Saiter-Bass / Keyboard, Simon Gallup: Bass, Jason Cooper: Schlagzeug / Percussion, Roger O'Donnell: Keyboard, Reeves Gabrels: Gitarre. Das Album wurde in den Rockfield Studios in Wales aufgenommen.

Robert Smith entwarf das Cover-Konzept und Andy Vella, ein langjähriger Mitarbeiter von Cure, kümmerte sich um die künstlerische Gestaltung des Albums. Das Cover zeigt „Bagatelle“, eine Skulptur von Janez Pirnat aus dem Jahr 1975.
