Thematisch verbindet es George Orwells Roman „1984“ mit Bowies eigener, glamouröser Vision einer postapokalyptischen Welt. „Diamond Dogs“, begleitet von der Leadsingle „Rebel Rebel“, war ein kommerzieller Erfolg und erreichte Platz 1 der britischen Albumcharts und Platz 5 der US Billboard 200.
