Das vierte Studioalbum der englischen Rockband erschien ursprünglich im Juli 2006. Die Aufnahmen dauerten vier Monate und fanden in New York und Frankreich statt. Es war auch das erste Mal, dass die Band aktiver an der Produktion beteiligt war. „Black Holes and Revelations“ markierte einen Stilwechsel gegenüber Muses vorherigen Alben, und die Band nannte Einflüsse von Depeche Mode, Millionaire, Lightning Bolt, Sly and the Family Stone und Musik aus Süditalien. Enthält die Singles „Supermassive Black Hole“, „Starlight“, „Knights of Cydonia“, „Invincible“ und „Map of the Problematique“.
