An Introduction to Syd Barrett ist eine Sammlung, die zum ersten Mal die Titel von Pink Floyd und Syd Barrett auf einer Compilation vereint. David Gilmour, der ursprünglich mit Syd Barrett an den Soloalben arbeitete, indem er The Madcap Laughs co-produzierte und als Produzent von Barrett hat die Rolle des ausführenden Produzenten des Albums übernommen und zusammen mit Damon Iddins und Andy Jackson in den Astoria Studios fünf Titel neu abgemischt, darunter „Octopus“, „She Took a Long Cool Look“, „Dominoes“ und „Here I Go On“, bei dem David Gilmour Bassgitarre spielte. Auch Pink Floyds „Matilda Mother“ erhält einen frischen Mix aus dem Jahr 2010. Das brandneue Artwork stammt von Storm Thorgerson und seinem renommierten Studio.
