Die Thrash-Metal-Band Slayer wurde 1981 in Kalifornien von den Gitarristen Jeff Hanneman und Kerry King gegründet. Mit ihrem 1986 erschienenen Album „Reign in Blood“ erlangten sie schlagartig Berühmtheit und entwickelten sich mit düsteren Tracks wie „Raining Blood“, „Seasons in the Abyss“, „Angel of Death“ und „War Ensemble“ zu einer der größten und einflussreichsten Metal-Bands der Musikgeschichte. Slayer gelten als Pioniere des Thrash Metal als Subgenre und wurden mit zwei Grammys, zwei Kerrang!-Awards und einem Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award ausgezeichnet.
